Tower Hamlets Council has supported Pride Festival 2016



Tarek Chowdhury :: Tower Hamlets Council has supported Pride Festival 2016, with a series of  free events that were open to everyone.

Mayor of Tower Hamlets, John Biggs, said: “Tower Hamlets has a vibrant and successful LGBT community which contributes so much to our borough. The Pride festival gives us all a chance to celebrate the diversity of Pride and of our local LGBT communities by getting involved in one of these events.”

Celebrations kicked off with “All the Colours of the Rainbow,” an evening of comedy and music with the fabulously funny Rosie Wilby, David Morgan, Marian Pashley and other guests.

“Pride In our Families” took place on Sunday 19 June from 2.30pm – 4.30pm at Idea Store Whitechapel, in Whitechapel Road, giving families the chance to  enjoy storytelling, arts and crafts, face painting, party games and a mini disco.

The Mayor, Step Forward, ELOP and residents attended a pre-Pride celebratory continental breakfast on Saturday 25 June from 10am – 11.30am at the Ecology Pavilion in Mile End Park, Grove Road.
Milk, a 2008 American biographical film based on the life of gay rights activist and politician Harvey Milk, was screened on Monday 27 June.

Pride celebrations concluded with an “Evening of Poetry and Laughter” on Wednesday 29 June from 6.30pm – 9pm in the Conference Room at Idea Store with an open mic event and networking.
